What I did
Problem
The company decided to develop blockchain-based application to bring more trust, transparency, and recognition to voluntary peer review or any other common-initiative platform through tool like verifiable credentials.
Therefore, the company needed to validate problem-market fit to start the development of the application.
Solution
To validate problem-market fit, I decided to use a lean, staged validation model. I used mixed-method validation to confirm early demand signals: combining qualitative discovery, quantitative validation, and follow-up depth.
Gather Insights
Discover pain points, form assumptions through community discussions:
- To validate formed assumptions quantitatively, I ran a survey: defined target segments, prepared and published a survey, and analyzed results
- To deepen understanding of insights, performed in-depth interviews with target segment.
Implementation Process
- Performed desktop research to deepen the understanding of the common initiative platform and verifiable credentials
- Identified target audience and prepared strategic approach for each segment
- Identified relevant online communities and initiated discussion on topic of trust, transparency, and traceability of the input and output
- Prepared survey questions and distributed them through the platform. Gathered and analyzed results
- Prepared semi-structured interview for each segment open-ended interview questions to validate assumption formed based on community discussion and survey results. The choice of semi-structured open-ended questions is justified with the desire not to miss any additional insight and let people speak.
Handling Challenges
Faced challenges communicating the project’s use of blockchain, as many stakeholders either had negative associations with crypto or lacked awareness of its broader applications. Therefore:
- Repositioned the presentation by shifting focus from the technology to real-world use cases and the value the solution delivers.
- Simplified messaging to make the concept accessible to non-technical audiences, helping stakeholders better understand the product’s purpose and impact.
